The second CD from this up
and coming band, Atomic, is beyond great. The CD is
filled with a bunch of great tracks; ranging from party
type music, to somber songs with touching lyrics. Their
sound is nothing that new, but rather a beautiful rehash
of a lot of stuff heard before. Influences like Oasis,
The Strokes and most 90s rock music seem apparent
in this bands sound. Though, I would consider this
album to be better than the latest albums put out by
either band. The album starts off well, but isnt
nearly as great as the rest of the tracks. The song 'Soul
Sister' (the first song) has a great rhythm, but very
average lyrics and an OK vocal performance from the
singer, Thomas Marschel. But, the following two tracks
are stellar: 'Magic Daydream' and 'Oh Suzanne'. 'Magic
Daydream' has grand overall composition, while the song
'Oh Suzanne' is just about as perfect as a song can get.
Astounding vocal clarity, meaning in the lyrics,
wonderful guitar riffs and is just a song you can listen
to over and over again, because of its wonderful upbeat
tempo. The song 'Face in Heaven' is a few tracks after
this song, and it is one of the more average songs on the
album, and though the beat is fairly fast paced, the song
is pretty sloppily written and gets irritating after a
few listens. 'Im A Man' is the next song on the
album, and it has to be this bands most Oasis-esque song
on the album. Tambourine and all. Its a fine track;
Oasis fans will love it a lot more than I do. In the
final quarter of the album, the song 'I Just Want to
Dance' makes its appearance. Its the most low-key
song on the album; very touching very cute; very good.
The most relaxing song by Atomic, for sure. In this song,
Thomas voice really stands out. In fact, this song
reminds me of the 70s love ballads that people
dance to at the end of prom. Truly a song everyone can
enjoy. The final track on the CD, 'High and Fall', is
either the best or second best, in my opinion. A very
relaxing melody, strong vocals, beautiful lyrics and a
wonderful chorus. A perfect way to close the album. The
entire band does a great job creating an 11-Track Album
that you can listen to all the way through without
hitting the next button. Hopefully they
concert in Ontario sometime soon; it would be quite the
experience feeling the variety of song styles glow off of
the band as they performed. Check the CD out if
youre a fan of 90s rock; you will not be
disappointed.
