THE LATEST NEWS
August 2008
As a follow
up to all the recent excitement with Hamfatter after their appearance on
Dragons Den... despite all the coverage they had
in the press/media, its fair to say
that it didnt translate into quite as many sales as we had
hoped, with their single
The Girl I Love charting at #71 in the UK. Ordinarily I would be
jumping for joy, as
it is still quite an achievement, but I think we were all hoping
for a slightly higher
chart position. Of course the single has yet to be officially
released and this was
purely based on digital sales/downloads, so its pretty good
really. The physical
release of the single has been put back until 25th August, hoping that it will get
playlisted on radio one or radio two in the meantime. Steve Wright has already
become a fan of the band and has been playing the single on his
radio two show!

July 2008 ~ Dragons' Den Update

Hamfatter with Jamie Turner and Peter Jones.
Well, what
an exciting couple of days its been! Im back from London, still smiling from all
the fun I had (except for finding out how much two drinks cost in
the club that was hired out
for the broadcast party), but aside from that, things are going
very well for the band! In case
you didnt watch Dragons'
Den on Monday,
the Pink
Hedgehog
artist in question was the
Cambridge-based Hamfatter. Ive been working with the
band for about five years now,
releasing three albums and two singles for them, but wed
pretty much gone as far as we
could without getting some decent financial backing... and
approaching the major labels
wasn't an option! So instead, Jamie (the bands manager) came up with the Dragons'
Den pitch
which seems to have paid off! The money secured from their
appearance is
paying for a new album to be recorded and promoted, as well as
the new single which
was released digitally this week prior to the
official physical release of the single in a
couple of weeks time on cd and vinyl... all of this without any
involvement of a major
record label and the usual constraints and unpleasantness of the
music industry!

Released 21st July (Digital), 25th August (Physical)
Sceptics are
already airing their views all over the internet, but generally
the reaction has
been positive in the legitimate press and has certainly prompted
a lot of discussion about
the band and their unique approach, which has to be a good thing.
The bands MySpace
site had over 6500 plays the day after the airing, and
The Girl I Love went into the iTunes
chart at
number 36 (number 7 in the alternative chart), which is
encouraging. They played
the song live on GMTV Tuesday morning and Chris Moyles (in his uniquely unfunny way)
did the band a huge favour talking to Peter Jones for about twenty minutes about them
on Radio One. Hopefully they will be able to
keep the momentum going throughout the
week and beyond before the release of the album and a UK tour taking in the Autumn.

Released 18th August (Digital & Physical)
So please do
download the new single this week if you can, so that we can
prove the cynics
wrong and show the world that you dont need huge
corporations and hundreds of thousands
of pounds to become successful and hopefully sustain a career in
music; you just need great
songs, self-belief and perhaps that crucial bit of luck and good
fortune! I have copied a few
of the better links below, including some footage of the Dragons' Den party we had at the
Bureau Club in London on Monday night... you may just catch a glimpse of
me sat on
one of the sofas in front of the tv with a glass of vino looking
a bit squiffy, I was just tired!

In terms of
new music, we're in the process of arranging the release of the Atomic album
I mentioned earlier, and we are pressing up a limited edition
(100 copies) of the debut ep
Demonstration by Si Jubb Carruthers which I can whole-heartedly
reccomend. The new
Garfields
Birthday album
Let Them Eat Cake is still scheduled for release on 19th May.
Finally, the new Hamfatter ep Do Something Stupid Tonight
has been postponed for the
time being. The reason for this is the band have something pretty
big in the pipeline that
will hopefully lead to many great opportunities and success for
them. Unfortunately we
can't go into the details at the moment, but as soon as we can,
you will hear all about it!
April 2008
Quirky
Cambridge 3-piece Hamfatter are all set to release their
charming reggae-tinged
pop nugget Do Something Stupid Tonight. Its the
second single from their acclaimed third

Previous single Sziget reached
number 54 in the UK singles chart and number 13 in the indie singles chart in July 2007.
The cd version of the single featues 3 brand new and exclusive
tracks. Listen to a clip here!

February 2008
Garfields
Birthday have
been promising this new album for ages now, in fact the
first tracks were recorded back in 2005, but two and a bit years later it's finished!
It has been quite a sporadic project, at different stages the
three band members
were living in Weymouth, Bristol and Canada; so getting everyone in the same
place for long enough to get anything done was a challenge in
itself! Despite this,
they have come up with ten stunning pop gems that are certain to
put a smile on
your face. The album will be officially released in May 2008. Listen to a clip here!
